Many of you will, I'm, sure, have heard of us. Some no doubt, will have heard us sing at various services that have taken place in the North of England over the last few years. What you may not know, is that the idea to form the choir originated in prison! I used to work for the Prison Service, and a chance conversation with one of the Catholic Chaplains where I worked (Fr. Richard Aladics) led to the first Rudgate Service which took place in the beautiful catholic church in Scarthingwell, back in June 1996, where amongst other pieces, we sang the Missa Papae Marcelli by Palestrina.

What we believed would be a one-off occasion (or annual at best) clearly didn't turn out to be the case, and we now approach our 15th Anniversary!

The 15th anniversary Mass will take place at St. Joseph's Church, Newby, Scarborough (YO12 6HT if you have satnav) on 18th June, 2011 at 3pm, and will, once again include the Missa Papae Marcelli. Other music is as follows:

Aichinger: Factus est repente
Tallis: Loquebantur variis linguis
Lotti: Regina Caeli

as well as the full Chant Proper of the Mass of Whit Saturday from the Graduale Romanum.

Fr. Stephen Maughan, who celebrated the historic Mass in York Minster earlier this year, has kindly agreed to be the Celebrant, for what we hope will be another special occasion.

Please do put the date in your diaries.
The event in honour of St Margaret Clitherow attracted pilgrims from far and wide. Several hundred were in attendance spilling out from the choir into the nave. The Rudgate singers and friends did an outstanding job with the music. What a joy to hear the Gregorian chant and the Catholic music of William Byrd in its rightful place, which he himself must have doubted would ever be possible again. In converstion with the town sheriff after Mass, I was informed that some years ago when permission was obtained to celebrate the first Mass in the Minster since the Reformation one of the conditions had been that there would be no Latin ! Apparently this was still to much for one of the local Catholic Parishes who had been approached to host the event !Nolite Conformari huic saeculohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13534065854974290290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031158969668914386.post-63735602704074599632011-03-22T14:23:00.001+00:002011-03-22T14:24:36.215+00:00AnnunciationLow Mass
Friday 25th March, 6.00 pm

Holy Souls' Church
Frodingham Road
ScunthorpeNolite Conformari huic saeculohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13534065854974290290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031158969668914386.post-40268411880547752142011-03-06T13:03:00.002+00:002011-03-06T13:05:51.681+00:00Parish MissionAs part of Holy Souls' Parish Lenten Mission,
led by Fr John Edwards S.J.
There will be Low Mass 8.00 am Monday 14th - Friday 18thNolite Conformari huic saeculohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13534065854974290290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031158969668914386.post-66543212158680914722011-03-06T13:01:00.000+00:002011-03-06T13:02:15.436+00:00Ash Wednesday MassHoly Souls' Church
Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe
Low Mass 7.00 pmNolite Conformari huic saeculohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13534065854974290290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031158969668914386.post-15803106072245706432011-03-03T15:56:00.008+00:002011-03-16T17:52:55.194+00:00Our Lady, Star of the Sea - Seaforth Village: Lenten Saturday Masses
(updated and amended information - 16.03.11)

Fr Wood (*) will celebrate Low Mass on each Lenten Saturday at 9.00am.

N.B. It will be a Missa Cantata at 7pm. Bishop Malcolm McMahon kindly celebrated a Pontifical Mass at the throne for the feast of the Immaculate Conception (10th anniversary of his episcopal ordination) followed by a blessing of a new Martyrs shrine at Holy Cross Priory Leicester. The Dominican community attended in choir with the prior, Fr Periera O.P., acting as Assistant Priest. Fr Crean O.P. acted as Deacon at the altar with Bro. Pearson O.P. as Subdeacon and Bro. Davoren O.P. as Subdeacon of the Cross. Frs Cahill and O'Connor assisted as Deacons at the Throne. Richard Hawker did an outstanding job of preparing the servers and as MC at Mass with the assistance of Nick Ianicelli.
